Research into wildfire behaviour, prevention, early warning, emergency response and the environmental and social consequences of major fire events.

Floods & Hydrometeorological Hazards

Assessment of flood risk, extreme rainfall, severe weather and their effects on communities, infrastructure and the natural environment.

Earthquakes & Geohazards

Study of seismic hazards, ground deformation, landslides and related geological processes, with an emphasis on preparedness and risk reduction.

Climate Change Adaptation

Development of evidence-based strategies that help institutions, cities and communities prepare for climate-related hazards and strengthen long-term resilience.

Critical Infrastructure and Entities

Study of the vulnerabilities, risks and interdependencies of critical infrastructures and critical entities, support to the development and implementation of policies for the resilience of critical infrastructure to climate change, natural hazards and other threats.

Crisis Management

Strategic and operational emergency and crisis response planning, capabilities-based planning, technological and sociological study of early warning systems, lessons learned from natural, technological and other disasters and emergencies, systems engineering approach to emergency management, new technologies in emergency planning and decision making.
